Description

Capturing a spirit of joy, zest and fulfillment in life is much like an autumn harvest, reaching high and wide to grasp the biggest, juiciest, reddest apple on the tree. How can we take responsibility for the harvest in our own lives while the world around us seems to be in chaos?

Before reading this book, I thought I knew myself pretty well. However, it became evident within a few chapters that I had forgotten that life is open to new dreams, goals and missions. Jennie Beal Counts' book, "Go Out On a Limb: That's Where the Fruit Is," guides the reader to look deep inside of self and be open to new opportunities to experience life more fully. In this busy world, I set my schedule each day directed by the needs of family, career, friends, and a few hobbies and interests. I had suppressed and put aside dreams for myself in order to put others first. Through the words and exercises in this book, I have been given permission to not only dream, but encouraged to follow and pursue my dreams. Beyond that gift, I learned that my dreams actually align with my values in life which was very affirming! There are exercises with guided directions that also help the reader evaluate his/her values and goals toward developing a personal mission statement. I've worked in several businesses and organizations having mission and vision statements, but had really never thought that I could benefit from developing one for myself. Reading this book has been an enriching and uplifting journey to discover more about myself as well as set goals for my future. The author fulfills her own mission statement by encouraging others to climb the tree of life, take a risk by going out on a limb to reach that precious fruit which adds flavor and sustenance for a more fulfilled life!
